Who is the strongest and fastest? Who will have the stamina to be called the 2011 Highliner? The best of the best will be determined at the 2nd Annual Highliner Competition, an exciting addition to the annual Blessing of the Fleet presented by the Newport Fishermen's Wives on March 19th, 2011 at the Port of Newport begining at 3pm.
Newport Fishermen’s Wives invites Fishermen and all others to compete in a race involving fishing related tasks, such as crab pot stacking, net mending, coiling, knot tying, among other things. Show off your skills and race to become Newport’s first Highliner with a chance to win $500.
Come and support our local Newport fishermen who have been challenged by Astoria’s top Highliner’s in this battle to be 2011 Highliner. Over $1,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the top competitors. Raffle tickets will be sold for a cash pot split 50/50 and vendors will be lined up to feed the hungry. Admission is free and children are welcome.
