The Great Newport SEAFOOD COOK-OFF “The Battle at the Bay with the Catch of the Day”

A 2007 Blessing of the Fleet Event Saturday March 17 , 2007 6:00p.m. – 10:00p.m. Newport Middle School

They have become the rage throughout the United States in the past decade, cooking competitions!  From the “Iron Chef”, “Top Chef” and the cook-off competitions featured on the Food Network the field of battle has now become a frying pan, oven and a grill. And now Newport will become host to the greatest cook-off competition on the West Coast!  The Newport Fishermen’s Wives is proud to announce….. The Great Newport SEAFOOD COOK-OFF “The Battle at the Bay with the Catch of the Day” A 2007 Blessing of the Fleet Event Saturday March 17 , 2006 6:00p.m. – 10:00p.m. Newport Middle School 20 amateur and professional cooking teams will be in a sizzling battle for $1,000 in cash prizes and to be crowned the Best at the Bay. Local and guest celebrities will be judging the entries and the attending public will be picking their favorites for the People’s Choice trophy. The public will have the opportunity to sample each of the entries, enjoy a special seafood cocktail prepared by the Newport Fishermen’s Wives and partake of the incredible St. Patrick’s Day Green Dessert Buffet! To add spice to the night the Yachats Big Band will provide a full evening of great music and dance along with two fabulous vocal groups as our special guest performers, plus the Two To Tango dancers. “ART SEA”, a special silent art auction with local artists’ works. The Lincoln County Historical Society will have unique displays honoring our nautical and commercial fishing heritage. Plus Caricature artist Deena Printz, incredible seafood cooking demonstrations, a fabulous Cook-Off Raffle, and much more! It’s a tasty competition, but it’s also a celebration of the men and women of the sea who make up the most important industry in Newport.  Proceeds benefit the Newport Fishermen’s Wives Memorial Sanctuary fund and Samaritan House Family Homeless Shelter.
