The Great Newport SEAFOOD COOK-OFF
“The Battle at the Bay with the Catch of the Day”
A 2009 Blessing of the Fleet Event

One thousand dollars in prize money and the title of Best at the Bay is on the line in the Great Newport Seafood Cook-Off, the grand finale of the 2009 Blessing of the Fleet on Saturday, March 21st from 6p.m. to 9 p.m. at Newport Middle School.

Billed as “The Battle at the Bay with the Catch of the Day”, ten amateur teams and ten professional teams will be competing in each category for $300 first place money and $150 second place cash. Seven judges,
including guest celebrities, will be rating the entries. All twenty teams will be vying for the People’s Choice Award of $75 first place money, $25 second place cash as voted on by the paying public. Winning recipes will be published in the News-Times and the popular Newport Fishermen’s Wives cookbook.

The event is sponsored by the Newport Fishermen’s Wives with proceeds benefiting NFW projects and Samaritan House Family Homeless Shelter in
Newport. The public will be sampling the culinary seafood creations while enjoying an evening of music provided by the Perpetua Jazz Ensemble plus
seafood cooking demonstrations and a giant prize raffle including grand prizes povided by Roby's Furniture.

Teams entering the Cook-Off will receive all the seafood needed to cook their entry, if using one of four types being provided by the Newport Fishermen’s Wives. These will be Dungeness Crab, Oregon Pink Shrimp, Oregon Sole & Alaskan Cod. Other seafood can be used if supplied by the individual chef and is “wild seafood; caught and processed in the US.”
Entry fees are $50 for amateur teams and $75 for professional. All team members will receive an official event T-shirt. Each entry will have a special booth at which you will be allowed to promote your group or
business with any printed material and booth decorations (such as banners).

Judges include KATU-TV's “AM Northwest” host Helen Raptis, Leslie Cole, Senior Editor of The Oregonian FOODday and the Seafood Steward,
Gary Puetz.

Ten teams in each division are allowed plus two alternate teams. Your team does not have to represent a particular group or business.
