Newport Fishermen's Wives will be honoring a few of our industry greats at our "Home Port Dinner"

Saturday, July 26th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Foulweather Trawl net shop at the International Terminals.

1520 SE Bay Blvd, Newport

  • The Newport Fishermen’s Wives are hosting their annual Homeport Dinner this Saturday, July 26th, at Foulweather Trawl, located at the Port’s International Terminal. This cherished tradition, which began many years ago, serves as a gathering for the fishing community to honor their own. Although it was paused for a few years, the Fishermen’s Wives revived the event to commemorate an important member of their community, Sara Skamsar, who passed away in 2021. Sara was a significant part of the Fishermen’s Wives program and ran Foulweather Trawl, a company renowned for making fishing nets.

  •

  • Becca Bostwick, President of Newport Fishermen’s Wives, expressed the importance of reviving this event during the summer, a time when the fishing community can come together to celebrate and appreciate their industry partners and fishermen. She emphasized that the organization and the fishing community thrive because of their mutual support.

  •

  • This year’s event will honor six distinguished individuals: Jim Seavers, Connie Kennedy, Laura Anderson, Kaety Jacobson, Gary Ripka, and Tom McAdams, who have all been staunch supporters of the fishing industry and the Fishermen’s Wives. The evening will feature catering by Myrl, an appetizer cookoff titled “The Battle of the Bay” with local restaurants Fishtails, Local Ocean, and Georgies competing for the best appetizer, live music by The Dive Bar Steve Experience, and a cocktail hour with beer donated by Rogue, as well as wine and champagne. A silent auction will offer incredible items donated by local supporters, including trips to New York, Hawaii, and Nashville, with the funds raised going to support Jon Stevenson’s wife and children following his tragic boating accident. Jon was loved and respected and his loss has been felt through the community and the West Coast Fishing Industry.

  •

  • The evening will conclude with a dessert dash, where tables will pool their money, and the table with the highest amount will choose their desserts first. Major sponsors for the Homeport Dinner include Foulweather Trawl and Pacific Seafood, while contributing sponsors are Englund Marine, Oregon Coast Bank, Port of Newport, SJ Jewelers, Local Ocean, NW Natural, Oregon Dungeness Commission, and Oregon Trawl Commission.

  •
